Hi everyone
I've recently had two lumpectomys, starting radiotherapy next week
Feeling really good but would love any tips from you ladies
Welcome. Have a read of the radiotheraphy thread here:
I found that its never too early to moisturise which i did anyway. there a few factors to consider not just treatment ie travel to hospital and waiting times which will impact on your tiredness. It depends on how many sessions you are having. The first one was a little anxious for me until I got the hang of it. Click my name to read my tale. Good luck x
Hi sounds like you had a really rough time, hope you feeling better soon
Thanks for your reply good advice
Take care
Thanks for that, hope you're feeling well, I will definitely keep doing the exercise
I finished a course of radiotherapy at the Marsden on Monday and have just blogged about it on this site (https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-blogs/b/cancer-and-cakes). I've written about the experience in my Wordpress blog too if you're interested (https://kathiescakes.wordpress.com/2021/09/29/cancer-cakes-part-9-charlotte-a-la-mousse-de-marrons-chestnuts-radiotherapy-tattoos-and-linear-accelerators-8-october-2021/ - skip the recipe bit and go down to the end.
The advice I was given was that the treatment itself was going to be really straightforward but that I'd feel the effects a couple of weeks later (9 out of 10 women feel exhausted and 9 out of 10 apparently have skin / cell reactions as if they'd been burnt). I was told to keep all the cells in my body nice and plump (drink plenty of water and don't get dehydrated), don't sunbathe (probably won't happen in this weather), use a skin moisturiser (my sister-in-law who went through this got me some special emollient and moisturising lotion for dry skin which can also be used as a soap substitute).
Retired lady rough for me but compared to others, I do feel lucky as not had to endure chemo. You can never predict how your body will react to surgery or rads so just a case of going with the flow. Side effects are going down but it does take time so I've tried not to be so impatient! Hope yours goes well x
Hi thanks for reply, I've read your blog
I understand from going for diagnosis and speaking to others how you do get to know hiw others are feeling
I recently done a team meeting on line with breast cancer nurse with other ladies in same position, aw we laughed and cried. I think we all said the same when asked hiw we are by family and friends we say oh I'm fine, we stay strong fior them.
I loved the story about little girl and her shoes
Keep well
I was tickled by that story too! Wishing you all the best for your treatment xx
Thank you
Like yourself don't need chemo so feel very lucky as well
I hope you are doing well and improve every day
