Hello there.
New to this all.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 7th July 21.
I have 3 kids. 16 8 and 3. My partner of 17 years has been amazing through everything.
I had diep flap surgery and mastectomy on 14th Sept 21.
Its been tuff.
I was told at the beginning that after surgery I would not need after care. That it would be near certain I would not have any treatment needed after.
Last weeks follow up consultation , it was explained to me that they found more cancer during my surgery and that I would now need chemotherapy. I have an appointment tomorrow to talk about this with oncology.
I'm petrified.
HI
Welcome to the forum, albeit I am sure you wouldn't ever have chosen to be here. I am sorry that you are now needing chemotherapy, especially when you thought it wouldn't be needed.
I personally didn't need chemo. but there is a monthly chemotherapy thread on this group where you might want to start reading/ ask any questions about it.
Just remember that this breast cancer group is one of the busiest for the very reason that there's so many of us on it - and because of this so much research is carried out and new treatments seem to spring up all the time. Breast cancer is one of the most survivable of cancers - there were literally dozens of people I found out after my diagnosis who said to me "I had BC in such and such a year" and I would never have known had I not been diagnosed.
Hopefully there will be some ladies who've had a mastectomy and chemo. who can pop onto this thread and give you some support.
Kindest wishes, Lesley
