Just wanted to share my experience. I was 70 in July. Went for my routine Mammogram on 20 May and said to the radiographer that’s my last one ! Famous last words.
Booked into the Breast Clinic on the 10th June. Mammogram and biopsy done.
Operation booked for 14 July guide wire inserted on 13 July . Right breast wide local excision and removal of sentinel lymph gland.
Diagnosis : screen detected right breast invasive ductal adenocarcinoma (5mm) grade 2. Er and Pr receptor positive.
Plan adjuvant radiotherapy to right breast 5 days 27 September to 1st October. Then 5 years on 2.5mg Letrazole.
The whole team have been absolutely wonderful .
They arranged the treatment around a special family holiday mid August 5 weeks post op, and radiotherapy after a holiday with old friends in Cornwall early September.
Radiotherapy done and I’ve been on Letrazole for 4 days now. No side effects at all I’m delighted to say .
Annual mammograms now and my friends now know they can request mammograms after the age of 70. Do it! My cancer was so small I would not have found it by palpitation, and I’m so pleased it was detected early.
I cannot express fully my gratitude to the wonderful team that cared for me and the NHS.
Good luck to everyone undergoing this journey
Thank you for your sharing your story . Very happy for you that it was caught so early and dealt with so efficiently. x
Thank you.
it’s a new world we all enter once the dreaded Cancer word is spoken , and the mix of emotions, fear, sorrow, and the realisation that at some point life comes to an end whatever we do Is overwhelming.
The experience support and kindness of people who have trodden this path before is vital. And the expertise of everyone involved in this journey no one wanted to be on is so important.
One of many acts of kindness that touched me was the Breast care nurse giving me a little very soft heart shaped cushion and a matching bag for the drainage bag if you needed it . Made by previous patients with a little encouraging postcard tucked into the bag.
I still cuddle this little cushion if I’m feeling sore or weary and think of the women who have gone before.
What a wonderful team
