Hi everyone,  I've recently been diagnosed and have some questions,  I'm not sure where to start or the relevance of which I need to know first etc so please bare with me Slight smile

What about acrylic nails? Can I still have them? If I have them with no colour etc

Wigs? When is the voucher issued? My chemotherapy starts in just over a week Weary

I'm having chemotherapy before I have a mastectomy,  and having a reconstruction at the same time.  The surgeon has suggested I have it made from fat and skin from my abdomen.  Has anyone had this?

Want to ask why I can't have an expander and then an implant? As I already have implants now?

I know this is all cosmetic but I don't have any input in the treatment lol. Any advice or information would be of help. Thanks for reading x

  • Hi K145 welcome to the forum . Its normal to have loads of questions and I will try to answer what I can and then I am sure some of the other folks will be along to answer the others that you have asked.

    • Acrylic Nails. As you may know the nails are one of the areas that can be affected by Chemo so it is advisable unfortunately not to have anything like that done. Then main reason for this is that you will be susceptible to infection whilst on chemo so anything that could potentially let infection in i.e any breaks in the skin will cause infection..
    • I,m not sure that they issue the voucher routinely but it can be an issue when required as some folks don,t lose all their hair during chemo but that,s a question to ask at the unit when chemo starts.
    • The other 2 issues are areas where I don't have much knowledge about so will leave this for others to respond to you and hope its all useful information for you.

Hope all the treatment goes well for you.xx
