I am 8 weeks post surgery for breast cancer. I start chemo next week. I am terrified. I am so anxious. I have sickness phobia which I explained to nurses asking for best sickness meds, I don't think they realise how this is affecting my mental health due to worry.

  • Hi Lizzie15,

Sorry to hear you are so anxious. This must be a real worry for you.
I had 2 EC and 4 Docetaxel chemos. I had no nausea or vomiting. I took all the anti-sickness medication as prescribed.
I know everyone is different but it’s not a given that you will get nausea and sickness. I was surprised I didn’t as I do get travel sick and have been sick after anaesthetics.

Hope all goes well for you.

  • I’m also on EC-T and a friend of mine is also on it ironically. Neither of us have vomited, anecdotally few people actually vomit these days, I know some do but many don’t. The antisickness meds are really good in that respect. I also find eating little and often helps and if I start to feel hungry and can’t eat properly at that point, I have a ritz cracker, mini packs, in handbag, or a biscuit, I find not getting hungry helps nausea. I also had bad acid reflux with my first cycle which made me nauseous but they controlled it with omeprazole and gaviscon and that knocked it on the head subsequently so maybe ask for that to be prescribed. I hope that helps. The thought of starting chemo is so frightening but hopefully in that aspect at least you feel reassured, all the best x

  • Thank you, feeling better hearing that. I hope you are going on ok.

I think the wait is terrifying. I am hoping I can be strong.

  • Thank you for your advice. I hope you are doing well, and I wish you all the very best. This whole journey is mentally taxing as well as physical.

  • It really is. This forum is excellent for support so keep in touch xx

  • I’m doing well thanks. I’m not saying chemo is easy but it is doable.

    Wishing you all the best.
