did I cause my breast cancer with alcohol

I think I have asked this before but I am needing reassurance

I was a very sociable drinker before I was diagnosed in 2018 and I have continued to drink since

I have never been very good  with alcohol and have had some things over the years which should have made me stop

I had a really bad experience at the weekend and it is really unfair on my family and myself to continue with alcohol

I am feeling so guilty that I caused my own cancer through alcohol

Type I had is hormone related so really I should have stopped in 2018 but part of me was angry I suppose and I thought why should I give this up

I now realise its not giving up something that I enjoy but something which is bad for me

I just need to know I didn't cause this and maybe ive done more harm

  • Hi APRILLEE Welcome to the forum and the answer to your question is NO, YOU DID  NOT CAUSE YOUR BREAST CANCER.

However, it sounds like you know that your relationship with Alcohol might be the healthiest for you and those around you. Drinking in excess will cause other Health issues that can and do affect you. Maybe time to look at why you are drinking and what it is that you are trying to forget by drinking?

  • I think im just rubbish at drinking and always have been but felt I needed it socially.  I now know my health comes first just got this overwhelming feeling of guilt today,

  • Why the guilt?

  • I just keep thinking I caused it by drinking and maybe if I never drank it would never have happened even though I have been told different by professionals

  • Hi APRILLEE there are lots f different theories about what causes Breast Cancer but none that have proved to be definitive to date

Could I  and others maybe  have caused our Breast Cancer by smoking because I was a smoker. From what I know there is no rhyme nor reason as to who gets Breast Cancer and it is often random and unexpected.

Hi AprilLee,  I am not a drinker.  I used to drink quite  a lot when I was younger but now feel that I don't need to drink alcohol even if others around me are.  I have a very occasional drink, in fact, I have a bottle of vodka that is over 5 years old!

You need to think, 'do I really NEED a drink?'

Try not to feel guilty about the fact that alcohol caused your cancer because you know it isn't true.  Perhaps you need to address your relationship with alcohol.

  • Yes I definitely do and have decided to stop so please wish me luck,x
