Hi I am new to the group . I had a mamaplasty 5 weeks ago & will be having radiotherapy in two weeks time. Everything from diagnosis until now is 3 months its seems my body as been through alot but my mind is catching up sometimes. Even though I have alot of family & friends support it feels I am alone as by telling them how I feel it will hurt them if that makes sense ! I had stage 1 so I know I am lucky & sometimes feel a fraud as I know there are people who are in a much worse situation than me .
It almost feels sometimes its happening to someone else & not me xx Julie
Hi Julie Welcome to the group - although like the rest of us, I'm sure you'd rather not be here!
I had stage 1 and felt the same as you, but my treatment was even less that yours - I had lumpectomy (no chemo too). However, there are an awful lot of women who have treatment for DCIS stage 0, would you call them a fraud? If not, then you can most certainly stop berating yourself for feeling a fraud - because you are NOT.
I guess a lot of us feel that it's happening to someone else and the treatment is such a whirlwind that as you say, it takes time for your mind to catch up.
If you have one family member or friend that you feel you could chat to, then it might be worthwhile confiding in that one person so you have support about how you are feeling. However, I will say, unless you've had cancer, I really don't think they can ever understand the shock that comes with it. This is where this forum is fab, because you can talk to people who 100% 'get' what you are going through.
