Hi!

Just had my first round of chemo yesterday morning. Was doing OK, then was sick 3 time in a hour. I rang the helpline and I seemed it was just a miscommunication with when to take the anti sickness tablets. I've been ok today but so paranoid now about eating anything as I really really hate being sick!

Just wondering if anyone has any good go to meals which are easy on the tum! (Vegan friendly if possible!)

Thanks!

Hope you're all doing well Heartpulse

  • I ended up vomiting for 24 hours after my first cycle of EC and had to go to hospital as I just couldn't stop, so well done that you stopped! The anti-sickness meds do help and I was given stronger ones, given my reaction.

My go-to was soup. Lots of nutrients, easy to eat. I just bought fresh soup (or my hubby did) from the supermarket, though I did crave heinz tomato soup a few times!

I had nausea for about a week after each EC cycle, even with the anti-sickness meds, but I did manage to eat. I usually had to eat slowly and didn't finish the meal, and I couldn't tolerate strong smells or anything too greasy - though if you're vegan then you probably won't have that issue!

Good luck, it is a bit of trial and error with the eating,

  • Hi Cat Lady Jak,

Sorry to hear you were sick, must have been horrible. It’s much easier to prevent nausea and vomiting before symptoms start than elevate it once they’ve already started. I never had nausea or vomiting so, hopefully, with taking the medication, you might be better next time. You can always ask for stronger/different medication if you need too.

Your taste buds change while on chemo so it’s difficult to say what foods would be best. There’s a good bit of trial and error. I found I preferred spicier food as at least I could taste it. I prepared and froze some meals and soup when I was feeling better to use on the days after chemo. I found sweet things just too sweet (which was actually a good thing). I didn’t really lose my appetite and managed to plough through most things.

Hope you find some things that suit you. All the best with your chemo.

    Bluebell xx
