Just been diagnosed with DCIS ,having op on Wednesday, feeling positive ,any tips please
Hi
The biggest tip anyone of us can give is just take each stage at a time and try not to 'second guess' how awful it might be - even though you are feeling positive, it's not an easy task to not worry about the future.
Are you having mastectomy or wide local excision (WLE/lumpectomy)?
I can give info, on WLE. I had 8cm chopped out in 2017 and everything I worried about didn't really happen. I was home from the operation in a couple of hours, paracetamol and ibuprofen was plenty enough to prevent too much discomfort. I had the operation on Wednesday and was back at work on Friday - driving on Monday. I had worried myself silly about all sorts of things from the operation /having cancer// taking the hormone tablets to radiotherapy and I would say, 99% of those worries were unfounded.
So, for me the biggest piece of advice is try not to think about tomorrow and deal with what happens when it happens and you'll find your mental health will be so much better for it.
Good luck with your operation on Wednesday.
Kindest wishes, Lesley
