Hi I am new here I live in Barbados I was diagnosed with Invasive ductal cancer stage 3. My Tumor is 4cm and I have started my first round of chemotherapy and about to receive another on Thursday. I am on Taxol and carboplatin. I was scared when I got the diagnosis I am 47 years old one daughter and just started a mortgage so all I was saying is I need to live I got this. My side effects so far have been muscle aches lost of taste and constpation but this week my head has been really sore so I cut my hair down.

  • Hello,

Barbados? How exciting? We shall so enjoy sharing your experiences and photpgraphs. Is it hot there at the moment?

Cutting your hair if your head was sore was a great plan. My OH did that for me. I had some bright turbans ready to replace the hair. It helped.

I had a different treatment to you but I have read others who have had succesful results with your combination. My own treatment was in 2015. I was signed off last year.

If you have problems do ask. The monthly chemo thread has people who like you are undergoing treatment now and can share and empathise.  The Awake thread has members with plenty of experience but who may also make you laugh. With the time difference you might find someone to chat to in the middle of the night......

Take care. Remember treatment may not be pleasant at times but you are on your way to recovery.

    Love Karen

Hi Karen great to meet you a survivor. Yes Barbados is hot at the moment but it’s also going into our hurricane season so some rain in between. I have my cousin making me a wig. Cancer is a stigma here and is seen by many as a death sentence. But I said look it’s a sickness and with meds it can be beat. It will be hard at times but I have a great support system. And I will reach out with questions

  • Hi there, I'm in my 5th cycle (of 6) of carboplatin and taxotere, I also get Herceptin and pertuzumab as I am receptor positive.   I have managed my side effects pretty well throughout and managed to continue working throughout.  I hope you have good support around you, but this site is amazing for people going through the same experience.  Best wishes

I’ve been blogging if you want to take a look.
