Hi, I've had a cancer diagnosis today.

Hi everyone, I had a clinic appointment today where I received my cancer diagnosis. It's Grade 1 and ER+ (is that the right word)? The one where the hormones are feeding the cancer. The plan is lumpectomy and radiotherapy. Whilst I'm having lumpectomy I will have biopsies taken from the lymph nodes to check if there is any spread.

I'm feeling okay, which is worrying me! I know I'm lucky as it's been caught so early, but waiting to feel like I've been hit by a train. Anyone felt kinda okay throughout their journey? I keep saying the word cancer, and want to talk about it. I've made a blog too, in case anyone would like to follow:

  • Hello & welcome.  You feel calm as you have a treatment plan.  It's surprisingly calming.  Be prepared though it may suddenly affect you when you start telling friends/family/colleagues as sometimes it makes it feel more real xx

  • Hi there, I was diagnosed in February and have been very open about the diagnosis and apart from one wobble, I too have been relatively ok emotionally. I think we all react very differently and there is no right or wrong way to feel.  I talk to friends and colleagues and haven't shyed away from that, but I also know that doesn't work for everyone.   I think it's okay to feel okay about this, cancer is incredibly treatable these days, especially when it is caught early.  So I’d just go with how you feel and try and stay positive, but don't be surprised if you wobble now and again, and if you don't, we’ll that's great.

my own blog is over on the b,of pages in here in case you are interested.    Good luck

  • I've been upbeat and positive throughout, with a few wobbles along the way. The worst part for me was waiting for all the scan results at the beginning. Mine was first diagnosed as grade 2 ER+/PR+ and it was going to be lumpectomy then rads (life you, felt that was no big deal), but then the MRI showed it was on my chest wall so I had chemo first. I had a wobble then as I had to have a CT scan to check it hadn't spread and that was the worst wait by far.

Once I had my treatment plan, I was OK and just got on with it. There have definitely been a few tearful days but these have been few and far between.

My pathology results ended up being grade 1, no lymph node involvement (the biopsy is only a small number of cells so changing grade can happen).

I'm feeling great now, put it behind me and getting on with life.

There have definitely been a few down days, and weirdly more once it was all over rather than during. I think you can finally process what has happened.

Whenever I hear of people having cancer, I always think 'oh that's terrible' and then I remember I had it too! It's odd. I never felt ill with it, but the chemo was tough so it was strange going from feeling healthy to very unhealthy to get me better. I found lumpectomy and rads a breeze after chemo.

Sounds like they have caught it early, treatment is amazing these days, you have everything to feel positive about.
