Hi everyone, it’s been so useful and reassuring reading everyone’s posts during my diagnosis. I just had my operation yesterday and was wondering if I should be doing arm exercises? No one told me to but I have a leaflet that says they are recommended. Does anyone have any advice?

  • Welcome. It depends what you had done? I've had a lumpectomy and sentinel node removal.  Was given info for exercises from day 1 after surgery and then was sent an info pack after surgery for more exercises from day 5. I've also had a call from physio as classes are currently suspended.  If you're unsure then speak to breast care nurses as you should have been assigned one. Hope you're not too sore! X

Thanks so much, that’s what I’ve had also but haven’t been given the exercises. I’ll ring my nurse- good idea. The pain isn’t too bad thanks! I just don’t want to look under the dressings!!! I hope you’re recovering well. Thanks for the help.

  • Not sure where you are based but my exercises also had this link which may be of help. Please check first I don't want you to do stuff and injure yourself!

Im doing ok thanks taking one day at a time. I was hesitant to look too but wound is still covered with steri strips so can't see much. Am loving the multi coloured shades of bruising so rubbing a bit of cream or arnica in too as it helps remove the industrial stick from dressings. Good luck x

  • I had a lumpectomy and auxiliary node clearance on Monday.  My surgeon was very definite that I should do the exercises on the sheet as he says that there can be problems with numbness and loss of use if one doe not do them.  So I am trying.  I don't find them painful but I do have to keep looking at the sheet to make sure that I am doing them in the correct order.  Might be a good idea to ask you breast cancer care nurse.  I hope that you make a speedy recovery.  All the best.
