Hello I am a newbie
14 mm grade 1 invasive ductal ER + ve HER 2 -ve
I have an appointment to discuss treatment, I don't even understand what I've just typed, I have no idea what I should expect. I'm scared any advice would be much appreciated x
Hi being given a cancer diagnosis is scary but treatment has progressed so much over the years and it's now very treatable with a high success rate.
I'm no expert but ER+ve means the cancer feeds off of the hormone oestrogen and will probably mean that at some point you will be given oestrogen blocking tablets like tamoxifen.
14mm isn't that large which is good and grade 1 is also good. Mine was just over 2cm and grade 2. You can read my story by clicking on my name.
The lower the grade the better and grade 1 I think means it's slow growing and the cancer cells resemble normal cells. I think mine was grade 2 because it was over 2cm. It's best to have this explained to you by your breast care nurse or doctor to be sure it's explained accurately.
When you go to discuss your treatment plan I would take a note pad to write things down as it can be a lot to take in and remember. You might even want to record the conversation so you can listen to it again. If you can take someone with you as they will be able to help you remember and also ask questions on your behalf. It's hard to take it all in and also think of all the questions you want to ask so someone with you can be really helpful.
It seems like they have caught it early which is great so try not to be too scared.
Mine was larger than yours and a higher grade but it was all removed in surgery and with no spread to the lymph nodes I just needed radiotherapy and hormone blocking tablets for 5 years. It was all very doable. The waiting for appointments and results is by far the hardest bit.
Wishing you all the best. let us know how you get on. xx
GodWilling Thank you for taking the time to reply.. My Surgeon is shielding due to Covid. So I have been drip fed phone calls all week. The nurse has been helpful, as you suggested first is lumpectomy I will go under the knife on 6/7/21..soon. I've cleared my work diary, now I am kinda numb. My 20 year son is causing me soo much anxiety I've hardly slept, with worrying for him. I will try to read your story now!
Take care xx
