Hi
I had lung cancer last year and had a successful lobectomy to remove lower lobe of left lung and no further treatment was required. Touch wood apart from some intercostal neuralgia and breathlessness I have physically being doing not too bad. Had my 1 yr check up over the phone and all ok. Then as i'm now over 50 and the program has restarted I was called for my 1st screening mammogram last week. I've had a couple of investigations of breast lumps around 8-10 yrs ago and they had turned out to be non malignant. Just received a letter today saying that my mammogram is unclear and i've been re-called for a second stage screening at the breast screening centre. Trying not to freak out but i'm worried. Not really sure what i'm asking but i suppose it's what they mean by "unclear"
Hi TC28 welcome to the forum and sorry to hear how worried that you are. I can appreciate why you are worried but as you say even if this does turn out to be another lump it could in all honesty be the same as those before and be something other then Cancer.
Unclear means that they need to get a right look at what they think they can see and if it is indeed something that they need to act on or something that will not be of any trouble for you. So whilst it is worrying for you especially the waiting it does mean that they are being very thorough with you, which believe it or not is good news.
They may want to take a biopsy when you are there only if the mammogram they will do again is still not clear and again this is them being thorough.
Pleas keep in touch and let us know how you get on and keep busy to distract yourself whilst you are waiting to be seen. xxxx
Hi Granny59
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply I really appreciate it. I had biopsy’s taken from the last two lumps years ago as well so yes I’m happy they are being super cautious and that I’ll get checked out thoroughly. I’m packing to move house so keeping super busy but you know what it’s like when you stop it creeps back into your thoughts. Apart from here and my support lady from Macmillan for the lung cancer I’ve not spoken to anyone about it so I’m afraid I’m using the platform to rid myself of irrational thoughts. I do have a close friend who I will tell before I go to my appointment on Thursday but it’s her birthday today so didn’t want to mention it when I met up with her yesterday.
Will be tough having to go to appointment on my own but understand that they need to keep numbers down because of covid.
I’ll let you know how Thursday goes and keeping fingers crossed x
Hi
I havent experience of this as I found a lump before the mammograms kicked in , but my sister had a very similar experience to you - what she was told was that as there is nothing to look back and compare what is normal for that person , given that it is the first mammogram, callback form your first mammogram is reasonably common.
She was fine, fingers crossed yours is a similar experience , particularly given everything you have already been though.
