Hi, I had triple negative breast cancer and had a lumpectomy- clear margins and clear nodes. Now I need 6 months of chemo followed by radiotherapy.
cam anyone advise about the days after chemo? I have done the first treatment day and at home with steroids which finish today and anti sickness which could last me two weeks! Just wondering if anyone can tell me what symptoms to expect and any tips? Thanks in advance.

  • My advice would be to take the anti sickness meds as advised whether you think you need them or not. In my first round I only started them when I actually felt ill, by which time it was too late.  This time I have taken them since Day 1 and I didn't have any nausea at all, which was great.

Ah that’s really helpful thanks. I’ll keep up with the anti sickness as the nausea scares me most! Did you get any other symptoms? I have been a bit unsettled and uncomfortable- achy legs, cannot get comfortable on the sofa etc.

  • Hi, check out my blog to get a feel for my symptoms etc, it's called One Life Live It.

I've had the weird taste that makes all food spicy, a bit tired, sore gums and achy legs, and a cross between constipation and diarrhoea, but honestly, all relatively and very manageable. I have been pleasantly surprised so far, and just had cycle 3 of 6.

Days 4 and 5 I do lose energy, but it soon comes back

  • Hi MC19

Like you I had triple negative breast cancer. I was pretty lucky and didn’t have too many side effects.  I found that after a few sessions chemo that I felt breathless  when climbing the stairs. I started losing my hair after my second round of chemo so my mother shaved the rest of my hair off which was distressing at the time but I soon got used to having no hair. I also got mild neuropathy in my hands and feet.

Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment.

    Best wishes
