Hi. My mum was diagnosed in January this year and I thought I could cope fine however we have just been told she needs 18 weeks of chemo which none of us were expecting as she was told would just be operation.
I’m really struggling to do day to day life and work just doesn’t seem very supportive of the situation and I work similar to a call centre and I’m getting really irritable with the customers so I’ve asked to not be phone based for a while but they’ve said no and I just cannot concentrate at all.
Any advice?
Hi Em0510
I know 18 weeks of chemo sounds a lot but that normally works out as only 6 sessions if your. mother is having it every 3 weeks. . I'm sorry your work place is not being more supportive.. you could phone up and talk to a macmillan advisor they are really good and supportive also I think there is a section on here for carers and family who have someone going through cancer.
If you have any questions or a need to talk please just post we are all here for you and your mother x

Thank you. It’s weekly so will be 18 sessions. I know things could be far worse I think it’s just because we were pretty much told from the start she wouldn’t need chemo and it’s just become a lot more real with the situation I think.
I will look to talk to someone from Macmillan though. Thank you x
Hi Em0510. My mum was diagnosed early March and her outcome today is that she too needs 18 weeks of chemo but not all weekly. I am so sorry your workplace isn’t being supportive as it’s so hard watching someone you love go through this . I am usually a strong person but drive to work so upset some days and can’t bear anyone asking how I am as I can easily burst into tears. Does your employer have a carers policy? I’m very lucky to have a wonderful boss who has accommodated me supporting mum in all her appointments and I’m sure he’ll continue to do so. If it helps you to talk please message me I’m here for you x
