I had lumpectomy last May after chemo and had radiotherapy inJuly, I’m due my first mammogram this month. Do you get the result on the day or do you have to wait a few weeks for the result?
Hi
In answer to your question, re how long to hear the outcome of mammogram, it's the normal wait for a letter, usually within a couple of weeks, I'm afraid. This is the 'normal' protocol each mammogram. However, if anything is seen on your mammogram, you usually hear sooner and get appt for the 'call back', although this doesn't mean all isn't well. There are several reasons for a call back.
I had lumpectomy and radiotherapy some years ago and I can remember, to some extent, my first mammogram after that. I got so upset when I walked into the room. The radiographer was lovely and explained it's relatively normal to be upset the first time after, and thinks it's because it brings back the memories of the inevitable stress when being investigated and treated for cancer. I've mentioned that, just as a vague suggestion to be aware of if it happens to you.
Well done for getting through your first year. Long may you stay free of it, eh?

Thank you and hopefully all will be ok my hospital book first mammogram a year after surgery so I should be getting a letter soon
