Hi I was diagnosed in March 2019 with lobular breast cancer which had spread to my lymph nodes in my right arm which were also removed when I had my mastectomy. I had chemo and was very poorly suffering also from DVT, shingles, sepsis etc etc See no evil I’m sure there are others who had a terrible time too.

unfortunately I have been left with bone and joint pain which is constant. I’m worse in the mornings very stiff and such a lot of pain. Even the bed sheet on my feet is unbearable. I am on pain killers which help me but it never goes away totally. I’m also on Letrozole which I came off for a month but it made no difference and it’s not neuropathy as I have been tested. I did have weakening of my bones when I had my scan and am also taking medication for that.
Does anyone else suffer like this? Is there anyone who has any advice?

thanks

  • Oh dear,  poor you! I damaged the  muscles which stabilise my right foot and tore my left calf muscle about 8 years ago now and both  ankles are unstable as a result. Last  year I had covid which has led to increased swelling in my ankles and they sometimes crunch when I get up first after  sitting (!)

So far I've found taking loratadine (an anti-histamine used for joint pain), B complex,  turmeric (not a very high dose as there is a debate about it being good or not in ER+ cancer) and vitamin D help the  most. Some women find that sour cherry juice helps but it gives me reflux! It might be worth a try though...The other thing I found helped was intermittent fasting after having covid,  but it might not help you.  I wear Birkenstock sandals around the house which helps.  Bone broth helped when having chemo but not now.....

Hopefully other people will share their strategies too, but it's not something we consider as a long term effect but is quite common;(

  • Owww , I am sorry you have gone thought so much, it sounds like you need a break now.

I can't answer your question as I trod a different path, but, I can offer you a few suggestions.... one of which is I echo what Londonmumof2 has said about 'loratadine' it might be worth asking if you could try this.  Loratadine is an over the counter anti-histamine used mainly to treat hay fever.  Many in America have sworn by this and we seem to be following in their footsteps with it - apparently it can really help.

My other thought is, I wonder, have you been checked for 'gout' - only your comment 'even the bed sheet on your feet is unbearable' .... I have heard this said by many people that suffer from gout and I believe it can also be in other parts of the body - not just the feet.  It might be work asking your doctor to do a blood test (I think there is a build up of some kind of acid, (uric acid comes to my mind?), I believe you can have a blood test to see if this is high.... it's worth a try.

Hoping others will come along with ideas and suggestions

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x

    Hi,

Thank you for your help and suggestions. I take turmeric and vit D already. I have some specialist appointments coming up so will ask them about your suggestions.

    thanks

  • Hi

I’m on Letrozole too and seem to be getting away with just stiffness first thing or if I haven’t moved much. I’m taking Loratadine too, tart cherry capsules (rather than juice- like London I found too acidic!) and magenesium. No idea if this is why I’m lucky with the side-effects but I’m not keen on stopping and finding out!

I do hope that you find something that eases it for you
