Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed on Friday with Invasive ductal cancer and am slowly getting my head around it. I spent most of yesterday in tears but feeling a bit better today.

I’ve been offered the choice of chemo or surgery first, but recommended to go for chemo to try to shrink the tumour a bit before the op.

Chemo will be 6 x EC-T, three weeks apart. This is the bit I’m most worried about. I also don’t know what stage I’m at and have been told I probably won’t know if it’s spread until surgery, although it doesn’t look like it has from the ultrasound.

Anyone else here with a similar diagnosis? I’d love to chat about how you’re coping. The HER2 worries me, and I’m not sure about the ongoing treatment after chemo / surgery. I couldn’t quite take all the info in.

Im speaking to the consultant tomorrow for the final decision treatment plan.

Any advice welcome, or just say hello.

Take care

  • Hi

Thats good , they are the experts! I do think feeling that you are doing something to help yourself is a big psychological boost, particularly as it sometimes feels like we no longer have any control over what s happening ....

Totally! I think I’m just trying to find things that I can do to make me feel like I can help myself a little too. There’s not much else I can really do except be as prepared as I can be for chemo, and that’s the bit I have no clue about!

  • Hi Ruby and All,

I’m OK thanks. Getting back to ‘normal’, for now! I have my second chemo on the 18/3 too.

I was taking (what turned out to be) high strength turmeric which my Consultant advised me to stop taking. Still taking Vit D3. I would be interested to know what your consultant said you must not take. Maybe the list is too long for here!

I’m going to the Beatson (wig fitting) and the Maggie’s center on Monday. I’m hoping to be able to access exercise or mediation classes, thinking they will probably be online. I know there are probably loads I can be doing but just want to see what they advise.

Luckily enough I’d already started a weekly online Practical Philosophy course which I’m still tuning into.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

  • Hi Jo,

I totally agree. I’ve been reading (nothing too woo!) and have decided to modify my diet by going more low GI but still ensuring I get enough protein. Nothing too radical.

I know it’s not going to be a magic ‘cure’ but I’m hoping it will help. Makes me feel better, as I’m ‘doing something’, anyway.

And drinking green tea Tea Joy

    Hi all,

Having a rough day. Was doing fine, but feeling a bit rough and really sore arm after Covid jag and that’s made me worry about coping with chemo.

Having a bit of a sob this afternoon, just feeling very sad and scared. Hope your weekends are going a bit better!

  • Hi Ruby, iam the same everyday different thoughts, about surgery , lumpectomy then chemo and what else in this no end the road. But we will have end at the end , good things covid cases slowing down and weather its much better we will be ok as everyone else . Sending my hugs to you and good positive thoughts . Zana x

  • I know it is all very scary and the unknown, but once you start on your plan you will be fine, it’s a long haul, particularly if you are having Herceptin. Someone once said it’s giving a year to get the rest of your life, a bit dramatic but it’s true. I am 5 years diagnosed this year , and was so desperate to be where I am now when I was first diagnosed, you will all get there, I never found any of it as bad as I thought, wasn’t a walk in the park but everything was do-able.

Stay positive, stay calm, and when you can, laugh, it really is the best medicine.

Thanks so much. You’re right, lots of positives. Trying to think of a few nice things I can do on the run up to chemo.

    Hi all,

Just wondering how you’re all doing? I had a terrible start to the week but feeling much more positive at the moment, even with chemo looking next week.

how are you feeling heading into your second treatment? Hope the last week has been a bit more manageable than the first week after.

    Thinking of you all
