I feel like I am going mad! I am 41 years old & had a melanoma in-situ approx 9 years ago. About 6 weeks ago I got out the shower & noticed an odd patch of pink skin on my left breast. Closer inspection the pores are larger & more visible & size wise it’s about in inch wide & inch & a half in length at times it looks paler. I went to my gp who referred me to the breast clinic. Positively mammogram & ultrasound didn’t pick up anything, so the consultant recommended a dermatology referral.
Obviously I have googled.... the only thing that pops up is inflammatory breast cancer. I rang my gp who has referred me however when I said what I was worried about she said IBC can present different for each person that was over a week ago. My husband has since said that the breast looks fuller compared to the other & I now have pain in the breast.
So, I feel like I’m in limbo! Anyone in the same situation please comment

Hi there,
My journey started with a large patch of slightly discoloured skin on my left breast, about the size of an orange - no change in texture, just like a watermark so slightly tinted and looked like a very faded bruise. Like you I saw nurse at GP and got referred. No lumps detected on examination, but there was denser breast tissue under the skin patch - this gives the breast a firmer feeling and slightly fuller look - for context in a 34H so didn’t really notice any visible a difference other than the skin patch.
Mammograms and ultrasound detected calcifications. Biopsy came back B3 (changes in breast, not cancer, not benign) possibly B4 (early cancer) and because of the inconsistency between pathologists, I had day surgery to remove the whole tissue section (2cm round ball including margins), plus a skin biopsy. 4 weeks later confirmed as DCIS intermediate grade and skin biopsy was clear. So I had 3.5 months of not knowing, but ultimately bc caught early and cut out. My radiotherapy starts in 2 weeks time.
Worth noting I’m also under hospital treatment for chronic plaque psoriasis (which is being very effectively managed), so my GP nurse could have simply pushed me back to my dermatology consultant, but she didn’t. Sounds like your diagnosis is still very much in progress. Given the further changes you’re seeing and feeling in your breast, there’s no harm in going back to your GP for another referral. Do keep a note of dates and changes for referral.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on.
