Hi, I was diagnosed & successfully treated for breast cancer last year. I had a lumpectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsies in March, which were clear, followed by radiotherapy in June. I unfortunately then developed lymphedema in the breast in September.

Due to family history I was offered genetic testing & have the faulty brca2 gene. I have been offered a double mastectomy with/without reconstruction but have been told my lymphedema will affect the type of reconstruction & possibly the healing process so I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this when they've got lymphedema & how or if it affected their surgery choices or recovery. I'm currently waiting to see a plastic surgeon so hoping to get as much information before then so I know what questions to ask.

Many thanks.

  • Hi

I can't help with your questions but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. This is probably because this is a very busy group and posts quickly disappear of the first page, sometimes before people with the right experience have had chance to see them. By replying to you it will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussions list where it stands a chance of being seen again.
