I had a lumpectomy 16 days ago and had two lymph nodes removed they found cancer cells in the first lymph node but not in the second. I have been told that I will recieve radiotherapy and hormone therapy but also will be offered chemo. My appt with oncologist is on 16th, and unsure whether or not to have chemo. Has anyone else been in this situation and what your thoughts
Hi Chrissymac welcome to the forum and I am so sorry to hear about the dilemna that you are having about chemo.
The fact that it has been found in the lymph node will be the main reason I think for offering chemo as part of the treatment plan but nobody can make you do anything that you dont want to and sadly nobody can make thta decision for you either it has to be your own.
That said maybe this is the conversation to have with the Consultant and ask them why they are thinking of chemo and ask them to give you all the information that they have about this and the pros and cons of you and your type of Cancer responding to chemo. That way when you make a choice at least it will be an informed one that you make armed with all the information you need to make the choice which is right for you.
Sorry not to have been of more help but best wishes for whatever you decide.xxx
Thankyou very much for the advice I certainly have a lot of questions for the consultant x
ChrissyMac
my case sounds same as yours, I too had lumpectomy for 23mm invasive ductal cancer stage 2, so have appointment with Oncologist 22nd so far I’ve been informed I’ll definitely need radiotherapy and hormone therapy yet ? chemo. Surgeon sent samples for Oncotype DX test and results 17 so as I’m 52 this is low risk and Breast Nurse thinking risk of chemo may be more than benefit of having it. So I too will be having a ? chemo discussion with oncologist or should I just go with radiotherapy and Tamoxifen????
sorry but unsure if you too have Oncotype DX results
T xx
