Hi Iv just joined this group. Hoping to find somebody who I could maybe chat to that has been in a similar situation.

I recently found a small lump in my breast, Iv got a telephone appointment on Wednesday with the doctor. I stupidly googled Iv freaked myself out. My head is telling me it’s fatty tissue. However it would be completely irresponsible of me as a 36 year old Single mum of 2 beautiful children not to get checked.

so I suppose my question is...can anybody talk me through the process from the beginning? I hope I don’t sound insensitive.
Thank you in advance

  • Hi , It is good that you have referred yourself to your GP and I would think that he /she may want to see you in person to find out if you need referring to a Breast Clinic . Of course the procedure may be different now because of the Covid pandemic and you may just be referred directly. Your lump may be fatty tissue and I hope it is , but if it is not it is best to have the investigations done early rather than just waiting to see. There are many breast conditions and many of them are not cancerous. But IF it turns out that your lump is cancerous it will be very treatable these days. In the meantime please do not look at Dr google - as you have discovered he is often out of date or just plain wrong. I am sure others will be along to help very soon . In the meantime you could contact a  Macmillan nurse by phone-Tel:- 0808 808 00 00 they are there 8am to 8pm , 7 days a week and will discuss your situation with you .Hope this helps a little , sending hugs xx Kwissy

Hiya, I’m also new here. I’m a 30 year old single mum also with two children x

I have been diagnosed with 2 forms of breast cancer following a discovery of a lump before Christmas, but I don’t want to scare you! There are so many other things that your lump could be!

My gp told me that it has recently been made compulsory for all lumps to be referred to the breast clinic so don’t be alarmed if you do. I’m not sure if that’s the whole of the uk however. I received an appointment about two weeks later and this was also over the Christmas period so I’m assuming you could potentially get one quicker?

At the breast clinic I had another doctor feel for the lump and he carried out an ultrasound. From here he took a few biopsy’s. I believe that this would only be done if they find something that needs to be tested but from this point I was still being told it could be benign.

I then had to have mammograms and more biopsy’s done as they found more areas of what they call calcifications which can suggest signs of cancer but could also have other causes.

I hope this has been helpful but hasn’t worried you more, like I said there are many other reasons that can cause breast lumps which are not cancerous.

If you have any other questions, ask away xx

Thank you for your reply. Hope everything goes as well as possible for you. I like to be prepared for everything mentally. It must be horrible for people constantly waiting for answers. Thank you again x

  • Sending more hugs to both  and . I understand that you are both awaiting further investigation/results - both are unsettling and the worst parts of your journey on this roller coaster. Try to take it one day at a time and don't look too far ahead for possible problems that may not arise.  I know you will both feel powerless at the moment ,although for different reasons. Perhaps it will help you to be distracted a bit if you take a look on the "Chat" area of this forum - a variety of themes . I found the "AWAKE" thread a good starting place. Just take a look and join in if you wish or just read through. Wishing you both early results and a very good outcome - breast cancer ,if that is what it is has very good outcomes these days . xxxKwissy
