Hey All

New to the group so firstly Hi... hope everyone is well and keeping safe.

I had a SMX and full node clearance in March 2020 and not been able to find a bra since... im a 44DD on the right and cant find everything that gives me support without the use of a prosthetic. I'm happy to stay flat on 1 side and hate how prosthetics feel. I've  just turned 40 and not ready to have old lady boobie (no offence) yet so any bra recommendations would be great xx

Hi MonkeyButt welcome to the forum. I remember a discussion about this in the Breast  Cancer thread but cant seem to find the link to it  now but hopefully someone will pop along and offer some advice which will be of help for you..

I believe that Marks and Spencers do specific Mastectomy bras and there are organisations that do knitted boobs that can be used as a prosthesis which is much softer and more natural feeling.

  • Hi MonkeyButt, because Granny59 mentioned there had been a discussion in the past i put mastectomy bra in the search section at the top and two suggestions came up.  One was https://www.nicolajane.com/choosing-a-bra/?gclid=CjwKCAiAgc-ABhA7EiwAjev-j8dmG5L8DmWxR9_1_DhzG_HvITWi-0sz3l3DhYl_AtMy6c2NJahFThoCKAgQAvD_BwE

The other a couple mentioned was Amoena Bra.

I think they might both require a prosthetic to pad out the other side.  There is a pocket it goes into. I assume you've tried googling?

    Hope this helps xx

  • Hi

Another warm welcome to the group.

Well, bras (or the lack of them) one of my favourite topics. I am also one-boobed having had mastectomy in 2016. I use a "knitted knocker," because I find my prosthetic a bit heavy (and I can't throw it in the washing machine) so my experience is very much with pocketed bras. I am a 34E/F and it's not easy finding anything because I find an underwire irritates my mastectomy side, but I want some support for the remaining one. I have a couple of bras where I took the wire out of one side but that didn't work too well. I do buy the M+S range but it's limited - I like their Sports bras though and find them the best for me - they are very supportive. I look for bras that have a sort of stitched channel where an underwire would normally be, or a bra with a bit of body - it goes down the ribs a bit so that your breast can sit on top of that for support.

The ranges I have had most luck with are Amoena and Nicola Jane. They do lots of pocketed bras but also do crop tops and support tops though that might not give you enough support. Bravissimo do one bra by Royce - I went into my local store and told them off and also sent an email to their head office - I think we all should - they are very good at catering for larger breasted women and if they are going to cater for us at all then we should have as much choice as the rest of their customers.

I have a Sloggi crop top that I use at night and for yoga etc - it's not a mastectomy bra but it does have little pockets in it and is very easy to wear without a prosthesis. Not very supportive though.

My current favourite is a regular bra that I sewed my own pocket into (you can get them from Nicola Jane or online), but not really the option you are looking for.

Have you tried the Flat Friends website and group? They might have some info - they cater for single and double flat.

Hopefully you'll get some other replies soon
