Hi I have just been informed about cancer and started treatment.

Wanted help in how to maintain sanity ?.

  • Hi , a very warm welcome to the forum, sorry you find yourself here but hopefully you’ll find lots of support and shared experiences. Regarding how to maintain your sanity..... my ‘sanity saver’ has been walking. I don’t know what treatment you are having but I started daily walking during radiotherapy. Gentle exercise was advised to help with fatigue so I started going out each day, even if it was dark. It’s become my passion and definitely helps my mental well-being. I mainly post here on the Walking back to Happiness thread which is in the Chat section.
Wishing you well and sending a big virtual hug your way, HFxx

  • Hi Sneh,

So sorry you find yourself here but you've come to the right place.

My sanity saver was this site.  I have been on here every day from the day I got told I had cancer till today.  Talking to others who were going through what I was going through as well as reading the bio's of and chatting with ladies who had cancer but were now cancer free was the only thing that helped me.

There is a great thread called AWAKE where a group of us, old and new, just chat or joke about anything and everything or if we're feeling down or scared we just have a good old moan.  Everyone on there is really nice and very supportive and there is often someone on there to chat to late into the night.  This should be the link https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/breast-cancer-forum/f/breast-cancer-forum/128753/awake

Breast cancer these days is very treatable so try not to worry too much and spend some time reading the bio's of others on this site as doing that helped give me hope and kept me feeling positive - for the most part anyway as we all have are wobbles and panics.

Hope your treatment is going well.

Sending hugs and good wishes xx

  • Hi

Just adding another welcome to the ones you already have.

It's a huge shock, isn't it and feels like it's not quite real. We are here to help you through and help you to maintain that sanity. We're a large group and all very friendly. We have a few long-running threads that the others have mentioned - you are more than welcome to join in those - or any other discussion. Have a look around the site and join in whenever and wherever you feel most comfortable.

You haven't said what treatment you are having, but there are a couple of threads that we set up every month specific to treatments. there is the breast cancer chemo thread and the breast cancer radiotherapy thread. They are both places to get together with other people going through similar treatment at the same time. everyone shares tips and advice and supports each other.

Whatever treatment you are having, we are here to support and reassure you - there are lots of us here who are finished treatment and getting on with our lives and we stay here to pay forward the help we all had. It's devastating to get the diagnosis but treatment is do-able and you will have days in the future when it isn't the first thing on your mind at night and the first thing you think of in the morning. We'll help you get there with whatever support you need.

If you need anything, just let us know and we'll be there. Sending some virtual hugs for now

    R
