Hi, after finding a lump in my breast and seeing a doctor who then reffered me to the hospital I then had a mammogram followed by an examination. The last then got a second opinion by another lady who suggested I have an ultrasound then followed by various biopsies taken. This was a big shock as I had convinced myself it was a cyst nit that I've ever had a cyst, wishful thinking I guess. Then after that ordeal back to the consultant who then told me that it's likely to be cancer and the results will determine what treatment is needed, surgery or chemotherapy. She did say she doesn't think it's gone to my lymph nodes. Is there any chance she could be wrong??! Can they tell without biopsy results? Think I'm in denial?! In shock, sore and very tired as not sleeping well at all. I have a follow up appointment next Friday the 22nd which is gonna feel like forever but better than the two weeks they had told me originally.
Hi , Welcome to the group. You have come to the right place for support and explanations from those who have been just where you are now. It is all very scary but please be assured that IF it is cancer that the treatments these days are very successful. Please do not look on dr google - he is often out of date or just plain wrong. If you need questions answered now I would suggest you ring the Macmillan helpline and speak to one of the very experienced nurses.I am sure others will be along to offer you support and on this site you can be you and share your real feelings whatever they are without putting on a brave face.Perhaps take a look at some of the other threads - I would suggest that the AWAKE thread may be a good place to start, you can find it under the heading "Chat". Here you will find lots of friendly advice ,support and a good number of laughs too (yes really!)Feel free to join in and introduce yourself. Sending big reassuring hugs xx
I’m so sorry you find your self here.
Yes she could be wrong, but the fact she has mentioned cancer to you may indicate she is worried, but the biopsy will confirm either way. The waiting for diagnosis is really hard but it does get easier once you know what the treatment plan is, if necessary. I was diagnosed on 9/12 after routine mammogram identified something. Then the MRI confirmed two small lumps. I still don’t really feel it’s happening to me as I feel so well, look after your self and just take comfort that if it is confirmed cancer the prognosis is excellent and treatment do advance now. The week after diagnosis I convinced myself I was riddled with cancer and felt worried about every ache and small twinge. This group really put my mind at rest and it was good to hear from others who had been through the same feeling.
It’s worth looking at a few peoples profiles and reading some other ladies journeys for comfort and I agree with Krissy avoid the temptation to google everything. Your consultant will give you all the answers you need accurately. Wishing you all the best for Friday.
Sending love x
