Hi
I'm new here and hoping I've posted in the correct place. Also want to apologies for the long post, here goes.
I was referred to my local hospital as I found a lump which the GP and nurse both felt. My appointment at the hospital was Monday just gone.
The consultant examined me and said he wanted me to have a Mammogram and then an ultrasound after it. The lady who did the Mammogram was present during the ultrasound. During the ultrasound the nurse, or she could've been a radiologist said she couldn't see anything suspicious and then checked my armpit and again my left breast.
She mentioned a lot of cysts which I have had before. She then said she could see some calcifications.
After a while she asked other nurse to go and get a consultant (different one to I had seen earlier) She came in and took over the ultrasound. I could see them nodding and pointing at the screen and taking pictures of what they were looking at.
The consultant then said they needed to take some core biopsies from breast.
After they had done this the first consultant I seen came to see me. He said his wish is for it all to come back ok but said he wouldn't be surprised if the results came back showing something as my nipple looked worrying and the nurse had found a gland in my armpit.
He said I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news and needs to see me on Wednesday 30th but I will get a phone call the day before.
I'm just a little shocked and confused as during ultrasound I was told nothing was showing up as worrying but afterwards being told by my consultant that he's expecting the results to show something and sorry to give me bad news.
I have been told that a consultant will only say that if he's certain cancer will be found.
<span;>I just don't know what to take from this, I feel ok one minute because of what the lady doing ultrasound said but then worry because of what I was told afterwards.
Northerner Hi, sorry for the late reply. I've been trying to forget what's going on as we still don't know.
I had my Stereotactic breast biopsy last Wednesday. They took 4 or 5 biopsies, the whole thing was a struggle but they think they have enough. They did and xray of the biopsy to make sure.
They confirmed it was a tiny area of calcifications but wouldn't say anything else, apart from the consultant who did it saying that what they did will hopefully reduce my chances of it being too worrying. My consultant my phone me with the results and if so my appointment for next Wednesday will be cancelled as I'm due.to have the Hadfield procedure when surgeries are allowed to happen.
My results were being looked at yesterday and if he does phone it will be Monday or Tuesday.
I will read your bio now. Thank you for explaining things, I just don't really understand what's going on as when I ask questions nothing is made clear.
GodWilling Hope you're ok.
My mood hasn't been to bad lately. My partner was off work for over a week so having home helped. I just want to know what's what and get the surgery out of the way.
The pains have eased, only discomfort I have now is from the biopsy area. Bruising has just about gone.
Apparently I'm not to take anything meds wise or homeopathy because of my endo. Talking of which, my appointment for Monday to discuss more surgery was cancelled due to covid so now I'm still having to deal with bladder and some problems on top of everything else.

Hi
I have recently been diagnosed with high grade DCIS. I had a mammogram and an ultrasound and a biopsy. They also told me they could not see on the ultrasound what they could see on my mammogram, so i needed an MRI, followed by a more thorough ultrasound and 4 more biopsies. I had my operation just over two weeks ago. I hope they get the results to yoh soon and that it is good news x
How Elizg, it's been a while since we caught up and sounds like you are still waiting which is just such a pain. It's good you know what they plan to do though although I'm not familiar with the Hadfield procedure. A bit of a tense wait for the biopsy results for you but it's not long till Monday/Tuesday and hopefully they have some good news for you.
Whatever it is they are doing a biopsy of seems like it should be removable should it prove to be cancerous and once removed you're canter free.
I know it's scary waiting for the biopsy results but just keep remembering that even if it is cancer that breast cancer is very treatable these days.
I had my surgery January 16th and got the pathology results yesterday and now I am cancer free - radiotherapy still to do to make sure every trace of it is definitely gone from my breast. It was all very doable just the waiting was really hard but you can do it.
Let me know how you get on when you get your biopsy results - really hoping they are good.
xx
Hi Emie, I hope you are recovering well from your surgery and that your pathology results are good when you get them if you haven't already.
xx
Hi @Godwilling
That's great news about your results, I am so happy for you. Sending you big hugs. Nice to hear good news.
Sorry again for the late reply. I've not been able to log on.
Still waiting! Had my appointment with my breast surgeon on the 3rd. He said the mammogram biopsies came back clear again. He said the Hadfields Procedure (total duct excision and healthy tissue around what's concerning him removed) is now more urgent than before. So now instead of waiting for 2 1/2 months at the least he's got me into a different hospital that's only doing urgent surgery. I go in on the 2nd March.
I asked him if he's still thinking cancer and he said he's very worried about my breast change and his professional suspicion is it is. I will get my results 2 weeks after the procedure. Had my pre op day after seeing him and have low heart rate so hopefully all will still go ahead.
I'm just so tired of the not knowing and just want this all to be over. How can all biopsies come back clear when they said they think they got what they needed at last one as the xray confirmed it. I just don't understand as appointment was rushed and breast care nurse said she will phone me a week before I go on to see how I am and if I have any questions.
I've to isolate for 2 weeks before I go in and have a covid test 72 hours before and he said my partner had to isolate with me also so he's spoke to work and they're fine with it, just makes me feel even more guilty. And then I'm to isolate for 2 weeks after surgery but partner doesn't have to.
I just don't know what to think anymore, can it still be cancer if everything came back clear? I know he thinks it is but I am just so worried about having more surgery as the last 3 years has been tough with all the endo surgery and hysterectomy, I haven't the energy to go through more as it takes me a while to recover from the anesthetic.

Hi @Emie
Sorry to hear you were diagnosed with DCIS. How are you feeling and what's the plan for you?

Hi Elizg,
I'll start with your anaesthetic concerns. I took homeopathic phosphorus 200c after surgery to counter the effects of the anaesthetic and I know others who have also taken it and none of us had any adverse effects from the anaesthetic. I felt completely normal from the get go. If I were you I wold either consult a homeopath or speak to Helios who sell homeopathic remedies. Tell them you suffer for a while after an anaesthetic and ask them what they advise.
I had general anaesthetic some years ago (without taking homeopathic remedies) and I also took a long time to recover from it.
With regards to the rest then if the surgeon is worried then I would trust that there is an area of concern that is best removed. I don't know why your biopsies were clear so I would ask your surgeon and BCN. It could be that it's difficult to get a biopsy sample from the area they are concerned especially if it's not very visible. My tumour was very hard to see and I was lucky that the radiologist persisted and also managed to get a biopsy of the right area.
Try not to worry about surgery as recovery isn't that bad - I was given nerve blockers to start a few days before surgery which i am still taking and was pain free from the start just uncomfortable sleeping. The exercises are a bit painful but keep doing those daily - your BCN will give them to you and advise.
I'm seeing my oncologist tomorrow so hopefully will start radiotherapy soon. It's great they have moved your surgery forward, best to get it done and out of the way.
xx
