Hi
I start my chemo on 6th jan and have been told I can have a cold cap
I have been told it’s uncomfortable but I wondered if anyone could tell me if it helps with hair loss and if it’s worth it??
Hi , its not THAT uncomfortable, very cold indeed but with a paracetamol and a bit of grit you'll be fine. I tried it and probably lost 30-40% of hair (I had it cut short to improve impact of cold cap) and would have been fine was it not for the fact that by washing/styling hair you're tempting more loss...so I got sick of it and went grade 1! Best thing I did and amazingly looked really good.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained I say - so go for it, what's the worse that could happen mmm?

Hello
i hope you’re well? I’ve just come across your post as I’m searching for experiences with the cold cap. Did you try it? I’m likely to try it next week but curious to hear your experience. Please let me know how you got on?
Sending love, hugs and positive vibes x
I saw your post. I too opted for cold cap treatment before my first treatment of EC. I was told my hair would thin out. My hair was/is blonde but was nearly to my waist. The cap is put on to damp hair which is combed close to your head with a lovely deep moisturising cream for about 40-45 mins before treatment starts. I was lucky in that I did not experience a bad headache. You keep the cap on through the whole treatment process. At the end the cap is left on for a little while after your treatment finishes. Again no headache for me.
Before my next cycle...in fact the weekend before my next cycle I noticed my hair was very loose...on the Saturday and Sunday before my 3 weekly cycle, my hair came out in clumps. I was mortified. My hairdresser came to my house and cut it very short. It came out even more and is shaved now. I too lost all body hair eyebrows and my very long eyelashes. I have beautiful scarves and bandana and my parents bought me a lovely handmade wig which just touches my shoulders for when I can go out out!
Not everyone goes through hair loss with a cold cap. Your Macmillan nurses will offer you as much guidance and support as they can.
I wish you every success.
