I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April and have since had a lumpectomy and started Chemo in June. However since having my first Chemo I developed an abcess in my leg which required an operation to drain it. This is now going to take up to 4 weeks to heal and I am worried that while time is passing by I am not having any more chemo until the wound heals. Has anyone else experienced anything like this where their chemo has been delayed.
Hi Mel
I'm sorry to hear that things haven't gone according to plan for you. Unfortunately, because chemo lowers resistance to infection, they will make sure you are properly healed before they start again. Try not to worry, it won't make a huge difference, you just need to focus on the healing for now, and chemo will come round before you know it.
Hi Mel, I was diagnosed last June, had a mastectomy in July, the wound didn't heal well and turned necrotic, then I had an axilla clearance operation which failed to remove any lymph nodes (long story ) I couldn't start chemo until October, but up to now I'm ok, don't worry to much as Helen says it won't make a difference and they won't give you chemotherapy until you have healed x
Hi my chemo is starting 10 weeks after surgery what was your advised xxx
