Not sure if everyone is aware, I went to an interesting talk last evening at my local Bosom Pals charity group and the Eloise fitters were there with latest bras, swimwear and different types of prostheses.
I was told the NHS funds for us to have a new prosthesis every two years, regardless of potential damage, and may also fund replacements if weight changes substantially.
last evening I found out that my local hospital changed supplier but that if I’m not happy with what they would prescribe I could insist on getting the same make/size as I presently have and works well for me.
I loved my prosthetic it lasted 7 years. I did have two breasts but after surgery one was like twiggy the other like Dolly Parton. It more or less came out for weddings and funerals. Then I got a tear in it and I’d just got a new one when diagnosed this time.
I have to say I’m having no problem being flat. Nobody seems to notice. In this day and age nobody would dare comment anyway.
It will be interesting next week when I’m stripped down to my swimsuit.
Three times! What did I do?
Average length of prosthesis life is 4 years, apparently, after year 3 they can become increasingly ‘squishy’ and start deteriorating more as they age. This is presumably why we are allowed to have a ‘free’ one supplied by NHS every 2 years.
my unit now will not order ‘TruLife’ but only supply ‘ABC’ make. However they are shaped to account for gravity which 2 years ago the fitter couldn’t supply (that’s when she went with TruLife as she knew they did one). They do come now with a fancy zip up container as well as the flip top box.
She also had some swimwear which had been ordered for a specific model but weren’t selling it any cheaper than the catalogue price! Ha! She also had swim prostheses but they didn’t have the ridges built in which the Eloise ones did, but the newer ones would have.
