Hello, I had stage 2 breast cancer last year. Had lumpectomy in right breast and wide local incision in right. Not spread to lymph nodes and currently taking tamoxifen for 5 years. I’m really struggling to get travel insurance to cover a Caribbean cruise. Can anyone recommend an insurance company that they have used for this type of holiday? Thank you in advance.

  • Hi

Unfortunately, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when a cancer diagnosis is involved so please join us over in the travel insurance forum for cancer patients group to see the recommendations from others who have been successful.

Once you've joined, have a look through the threads there called 'Recommended Travel Insurance' and Recommended travel insurance 2023-24', which you'll find on the first page. They are full of recommendations from other cancer patients who have got travel insurance.

After my breast cancer treatment I took out insurance with goodtogoinsurance.com, although that wasn't for a cruise.

  • Oddly I’ve not had a problem at all. I’ve had breast cancer twice and am still covered with the Barclays Travel Pack that I have with my account. Because I was no longer on active treatment they didn’t care. They wouldn’t cover me while I was on chemo though. So if you have a Barclays account maybe try them x

  • Thank you! I will have a look at that thread.

  • Thank you for replying. Unfortunately I don’t have a Barclays account but apparently there is a specific group on here for travel insurance so I’ll have a wee look at that x

  • Hi 55mumof2

I went on a Caribbean cruise in Feb this year & got cover ok.

I had lumpectomy Feb 24 followed by chemo & radiotherapy as it had gone to lymph nodes. My second lumpectomy I had a few weeks after first showed clear margins & as I’d had auxiliary lymph nodes clearance I was cancer free (as my consultant told me).

I used the government’s MoneyHelper travel insurance directory to chose an insurer & told them what I had & had had. Also told them I’m on Letrozole plus targeted therapy Ribociblb 21 out of 28 days. The insurance was for myself & husband who has high blood pressure (as do I) & he’s borderline diabetic. It cost £583 for annual cover including cruises with InsureandGo, although there are a lot of others on the MoneyHelper list who specialise in serious illness.

    Hope you get cover ok.

  • Hi

i have just been on a cruise and got insurance through the travel agents . I had to ring and speak to the insurers and paid another £35 pounds to cover incase of metastic disease . I’m cancer free and had all treatment chemo radio etc . They weren’t that concerned as not on active treatment . Last year just after finishing treatment I went to Barbados and had insurance with paying too much !! Very reasonable .

  • Thank you! What was the name of the insurance company if you don’t mind me asking?

  • i will have a look at them just now. Thank you. Hope you had a lovely cruise, I’ve never been on one before but have decided now is the time Ship
