Anastrozole

Hi,

I was diagnosed with DCI breast cancer last July. Two surgeries to gain clearing margin and even than needed radiotherapy to ensure, I’m now on endocrine therapy.

I am now five months into taking anastrozole and whilst initially I wasn’t too impacted (hot flushes, tiredness and aching joints), i’m feeling a lot worse now and clearly wondering whether it is the drug or something else. (I hate that having a cancer and makes me so hyper vigilant about everything). Has anyone else experienced symptoms of headaches and GI-including heartburn, hiccups, nausea - this much time after starting the drug.

I absolutely hate taking drugs but was completely on board with doing this for five years to avoid recurrence. I can’t imagine feeling the way I’m feeling right now for another 4 1/2 years.

i’d appreciate any words of advice xxPray

  • Hi, I wonder if by any chance you have changed brands?  Some people do say the brand makes a difference. My advice would be to talk to your oncologist and see what they recommend or if there are any alternatives for you. Best wishes

  • Yes!!! I must admit I make sure I’ve always got a back supply of the tablets and just group them all together. I wonder if mixing them up is causing a problem. Thank you so much. This is not something I’d even considered this is why I love this chat room!!

  • Hi, I had different side effects which only disappeared around seven months in. Since then one brand caused a wobble. But, otherwise 2 and a half years in, don't even notice it, other than taking it once a day. Moving to taking it in the evening sometimes helps, which I did early on, but now back to mornings.
