Hi I'm a bit confused on my mums treatment , she has gave me some information about it, but not sure how it works , she is having 12 week cycle of paclitaxel, once a week , she will also be having trastuzumal 3 weekly, also 3 cycles of EC 2 weekly . Does this mean 12 weeks of one then 3 weeks of the other ,then 2 weeks of the other ,

  • Hello.....

This is a very confusing time. There are so many different sets of initials and drug names at the moment.

I can only say what often happens as there are so many individual variations in treatment nowadays but usually....

the twelve taxotere( paclitaxel) will be given weekly followed by the EC.....in your mum's case...3 doses, one every two weeks so in total 18 weeks.

The other drugs.....which maybe just injections.... will often be given during the other treatments. I think some people have them on the same appointment whilst others go in specially.

The weekly taxotere is a good way of being given the strong drug as it has been found that the body deals better with the smaller doses. It may feel tedious but in the long term it will probably avoid a reaction known as neuropathy. Having reacted that way, I am sure it will be better.

I hope that helps a bit but I am only posting other people's experiences so to get proper clarification for your mum's exact situation, contact her BCN who should have her notes and explain her confusion. Perhaps you could accompany her on her next rv as there is always so much to remember.  My OH helped me to remember.

I hope all goes well for your mum. Treatment seems to stretch forever but once started it does pass. It will be ten years this Autumn since my diagnosis and since treatment , my mammograms have been clear.

    Take care. Love Karen
