I had a lumpectomy and lymph nodes removed 11 days ago. Had my post-op follow up with consultant yesterday and everything is good and healing well. The thing is, I've noticed I have some brain fog, similar to after I had Covid. Nothing major but frustrating as I keep forgetting things (like collecting my prescription from the chemist or putting a washing on or my neighbour's name). Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this?
Hi HeatherLassie,
My daughter has had surgery plus chemo and radio. She's had major brain fog - forgetting names, having to check up appointments and engagements and stick notes on the fridge to remind herself. I think it's a common side effect.
Best of luck with your treatment.
It’s only 11days, you’ve had major surgery. Even anaesthetic drugs take up to 3 weeks to totally leave your system, so please be kind to yourself, take your time recovering, be led by your body; but please do those shoulder exercises, really necessary.
It can often help getting out into fresh air for a short walk…

Hi HeatherLassie,
I think its side effects treatment and the trauma that our body had gone through. I have brain fog all the time when am talking and i feel so embarrassed especially when am dealing with professional at work, all of a sudden i pose, trying to remember.... i start getting headache when i push myself hard to remember...
You will feel better soon, i wish you quick recovery .
Xx
Hi Swas
Thank you! I'm so glad to hear it's not just me. I'm the same in that the more I try to remember, the worse it gets. My memory is just a black hole! I'm not very good at being a patient patient, so will need to be kind to myself and just give it time. Xx
Hi Moomy
Thank you! I'm not a patient person so think I'm just expecting too much of myself. I've been trying to get out for a wee walk every day since 3 days after my surgery, and find this really helps maybe not my memory (or lack of lol) but just my mental health in general. I'm a firm believer that fresh air heals everything. Xx
Hi Cherry2
Thank you! I'll definitely try using sticky notes and lists. Feel better knowing this brain fog is normal. Xx
