Hi all, wider local excision surgery, (non invasive DCIS), is booked for Monday, 6th, and suddenly I don’t feel as positive as I have been, is that normal? I plan to work from home from Wednesday as that is normal and I need to keep busy. Results in three weeks and I have a pre planned visit to the theatre around that time. Feel foolish saying that!
Perfectly normal, it's a lot to deal with and we all have lows and highs. Nothing foolish about planning something nice, we went out for dinner on my results day with a whatever the outcome we can't change it so let's do something nice attitude! I also booked a theatre trip after surgery and attended a show with a drain still in. Wishing you all the best with your surgery and recovery and never feel foolish. It is your journey, handle it how it suits you. I start chemotherapy next week and am not allowed to use a swimming pool during treatment so I am dragging my husband to the pool with me today. I had a mastectomy and axillary lymph node clearance on 29th November. We are all individuals, there is no right or wrong way of coping with this.
Thank you & wishing you all the best for next week and your recovery
Hi First time here
Not foolish at all! If you feel up to working then do. Same for the theatre trip, go and have a wonderful time. I was keen to get back to normal as soon as possible after lumpectomy too. My only slight word of caution is to not try to do too much too soon as it can cause problems. I thought I was absolutely fine after a few days and then casually washed my hair as if nothing had happened which caused a swelling to move under my armpit. This was incredibly uncomfortable for a couple of days and I could have kicked myself for being overly confident and thinking I’m invincible!
Best of luck with everything. x
I think that's my problem, I think I'm invincible as does my family! Thank you for your advice/word of caution. It's little things like washing your hair that you think will be ok. I'll get some help with that.
Hi, it's normal to feel more anxious as “events” get closer I think. Just on the “working from home”. I worked all the way through my chemo, so I completely get the need to keep busy, but I have to admit, I did take 2 weeks off on sick leave and then some vacation after the lumpectomy and I am so glad I did. Surgery is a major thing for the body and it takes time to heal, so just be aware not to expect too much of yourself the first week or so. Best wishes
Thank you. I only plan on answering some emails and will make sure I take a break.
