Hi everyone. Not been on for a while, been navigating my thoughts &, feelings,so in August my first year mammogram clear, elated, but since completing radiotherapy in February my right arm (operated side) has gradually become extremely painful in neck & muscle in arm,so just had 8 xrays to neck chest shoulder & arm,so once again the wait is on,has anyone else experienced this pain.I had lumpectomy, chemo radio now on meds,I only had sentinel node removed all clear margins.worry worry again.big hugs everyone.

  • Hello  , I had rads last July and the tight feeling over the whole area had worried me. I guess that’s what you’re feeling?
I had a problem years before with that shoulder and had worked hard at regaining full movement after the surgery I needed then. So to have movement limitation after radiotherapy was frustrating. I’ve had a couple of sessions with our cancer units physiotherapist, who have me some stretches to do. They’ve reassured me that my movement is not bad at all, it’s purely the tightness of the effect from rads which the stretches have helped to ease a little.

Keep doing those shoulder exercises regularly anyway as they will help too.

  • Thank you moomy,Ian the moment I can't raise my arm above my shoulder or stretch it to the side or round my back without this burning pain in my arm muscle, hopefully I will here something soon.stay well, hugs.x

  • I hope you’ve been doing the exercises? Please talk to your BCN to ask if there me a reason for this, and if it’s just the treatment effects, then maybe they could get you some help.

  • I to had extreme pain in arm months after radio ,had a scan and put on painkillers which didn't touch it .5 months later pain stopped, really odd i think its our bodies adjusting to radio as i was fine after my two ops and pain didn't kick in until  months after radiotherapy.kind regards

  • That sounds awfully like frozen shoulder. Often they clear up over time,

  • Yes that's what I thought, the thing I don't understand is why is the severe pain on my bicep muscle.x

  • It is usually felt in the outer art of the upper arm but I suppose it can impact nerves serving the bicep. I hope it gets better for you.
