Hi all, I’m new and have grade 2 her-, e/p + breast cancer. I’m currently recovering from a lumpectomy 10 days ago and was doing great until 7 days when developed a stabbing pain in my back side under the shoulder blade. After a call to my breast cancer nurses and a trip to A&E the consultant ruled out DVT, infection and other heart/ chest issues which was a relief. Suggesting that my back pain could be due to Atelectasis, damage caused by anaesthetic where shallow breathing during surgery can collapse smaller airways. Anyone else relate to this? Any suggestions to speed recovery?

I’ve upped my pain meds to paracetamol and ibuprofen and walk each lunchtime to increase deeper breathing. Seems to help, but sore in my right side still.

Other than that doing ok waiting for the margin results and the sentinel node biopsy. Recovery is fine during the day resting up well but after 5pm rest is harder with a 2 and 6 year old! My 2 year old pounces for a cuddle and I have to stand up and walk about to avoid accidental lifting! Anyone else relate? Feeling mum guilt and missing cuddles poor 2 yr old is missing mummy cuddles, but hoping to resume after another week post surgery!

Any advise on that would be great!

  • Hi Sus84

Welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with breast cancer.  While I don't have any advice for you I noticed that you haven't had any replies yet and as this is a busy forum your post is on page 2 so I thought I'd reply to you to move you to the top of the discussion.  Hopefully someone will be along shortly with some advice for you.

Wishing you the best of luck with your results and I hope you have a lovely Christmas.

    Best wishes
