Tram flap natural reconstruction post surgery

I am 4 months post surgery and doing really well despite setbacks with healing incisions and dehiscence along the way. I've only just been allowed to take of my abdo band and wear a bra. I went back to work and by the end of the day I hurt. Uncomfortable is prob a better word. I think it's more nerve sensitivity as it's over large areas, but I'm Managing it and keeping an eye on how it changes.   I've been allowed to fly ... Yah, so I'm home for Christmas in New Zealand. I have had a lot of pain under my reconstructed breast where the muscle was moved to. Its been consistent all day so I'm trying to work out if it's normal, I've been walking and more active so maybe it's just that. I was told I have to be very careful of the area to protect the muscle and associated blood vessels as if there was any  damage my breast would likely be in trouble. Do you think I should try and see someone here to check it? With Xmas ahead, I want to put my mind at rest.

Thanks

  • Hi JintyJ, I suspect you've answered your own question, it's probably nothing but putting your mind at rest before such a long flight would make sense.  I remember having some pain after my radiotherapy and before a 2 week trip to the US and I went in to get it checked just in case.  It might also be worth asking what antibiotics your team here would recommend, so that you know if you did get any infection whilst in NZ (better still if they would give you some just in case but they probably can't do that). Best wishes and safe travels.

  • Thanks so much. You are right. I did go and get some advice which was pretty much what I expected. I'm still getting used to all the feelings, each stage of recovery has been different.

  • I hate to tell you, but 3 years on I still get new feelings and side effects and it’s always hard to differentiate what is “normal” and what to actually worry about. Have a super trip home
