Managing Asymmetry

Hi, following biopsies 4/10 I had WLE and SNB 24/10 - bifocal invasive tumours (20mm + 4mm) and 55mm DCIS removed. Lymphs clear but 3 sides of DCIS without clear margins. Yesterday (12/12) I had reexcision with lateral mammoplasty. Obviously no results yet (if margins not achieved will have mastectomy) and will also be having radiotherapy. My question really is about managing the considerable asymmetry now and what to wear generally and in particular for sport - I am a runner (usually). Previous breast size 34F and would estimate that my right breast is 3 cup sizes smaller after both surgeries. Obviously won’t be back running for few weeks ! but keen to be ready as exercise is my sanity in this crazy cancer world, and in the meantime supposed to be wearing supportive bra, how is that possible when breasts so different in size? Thanks for reading this and grateful for any tips.

  • My surgeon recommended a company called Macom Medical. The bras they make are seamless and do up at the front. I wore mine for six months. As I was quite full busted he suggested the longline one. It was so comfy and didn’t irritate under my arm pit where the lymph nodes were operated on. Whilst you heal I’m just trying to suggest a bra that is extremely comfortable and stretches with your shape.
although at the moment I’m not choosing one for the asymmetry, I have a feeling they my do prosthetics as well.

  • Thanks, Claire, appreciate the recommendation, I will have a look at that company.
