Hi all, had my appt with breast surgery team today. I have been so very lucky, never thought I’d say that. I have DCIS which is non invasive. Have opted for wide local excision, (have to wait for a date). Surgery team think that should be it but I will take whatever they offer me. Thank you to everyone who has offered me support and a virtual shoulder to cry on over the past week, you are all amazing.
Great news!! Lovely to hear. Xx
Very lucky & now a great advocate for screening! Thanks for all your support, xx
Hi
I would just like to offer some support. I too had DCIS. turned out to be high grade. Had a lumpectomy and then 10 radiotherapy sessions.
from my experience I would like to let you know that it’s not as scary as it sounds. I have been blessed with no pain or side effects after the operation or radiotherapy. I used epidern 3 x’s a day and have not had any side effects.
I have kept very positive about my diagnosis and feel blessed it was diagnosed when it was. I was petrified about radiotherapy. I have had 5 whole breast and 5 targeted sessions. I was so suprised how quick and painless the whole thing was. In and out in 5-10 mins ( that’s with getting changed and changed back!) I did not get any tiredness and felt well
I hope your experience is the same. I just wanted to give you some hope as it was all I was looking for after my diagnosis.
good luck and take care.
Ps I made sure i rested during radiotherapy ( although I did have a day out at abba voyage and was fine! )
Thank you so much for this. Had my marker inserted last week so now waiting for a surgery date. Although they did say I might need another marker as this one is 3mm off! Doctor didn’t seem to think I’d need radiotherapy after surgery but I’ll have whatever they suggest.
Like you, I feel incredibly blessed that this was found so early and can be treated.
it is reassuring to hear from you though and I really appreciate your support.
Have tickets to see the Lion King later in January so have something to look forward to.
Ahhh that’s lovely you have something to look forward to.
They did tell me I didn’t need radiotherapy but after the operation it was graded as high grade ( initially intermediate), so just be prepared in case.
They also sent me an oncology appointment before I’d had my results !! As you can imagine I feared the worst but it was for my radiotherapy.
I hope you don’t need it, but if you do just make sure your cream the area at least 3 times a day. I wish you well and make sure you enjoy your Xmas.
As scary as it all is, it has happens, it can’t be changed and we were blessed and lucky to have received the diagnosis we did.
take care of yourself.
you’re right & everyone on this forum has been fantastic!
