Hi everyone . I have been taking Letrozole for about 6 months and at first it was OK but in the last month or so the side effects got worse meaning I am not sleeping at nights due to joint pain and my mood has been getting worse just feel like crying all the time and have no energy to do anything.  Spoke to my BC nurse who has spoken to my surgeon and I am going to be starting on Anastrozol next week. I would like to hear what side effects I can expect with the new tablet or will it be the same ? I am hoping it will be slightly better as can't cope with it at the moment and on Friday I see my oncologist for the first time to find out if it will be Chemotherapy or Radiotherapy and and anxious about this which doesn't help my sleeping . Any info would be appreciated.

  • Hi , I’ve been on Anastrazole for just 6 months . I think the choice of Anastrazole v Letrozole depends on the oncologist . Both do the same job but I read that Anastrazole is a little bit more kind . Not less effective though .
The brands make a big difference . I can tolerate Amarox but Key was awful . The medics acknowledge this and my onco asked GP to prescribe Amarox , which my pharmacy can usually get .

You are still early days and the emotions and fatigue will be affected by your treatment. The side effects may settle down after a few months . Don’t be afraid to ask for help x

  • Klf, thank you so much for your reply I will let you know  how I get on xx

  • Hi. I have been taking Anastrozole now for two years. I get the occasional hot flush, but mainly find I can tolerate the tablets. I agree that different brands have different effects and there is one brand I avoid. Be kind to yourself and always ask for help. I wish you all the best with your treatment.

  • Thank you do much for your reply and I hope the new tablets will help me .
