Many of the posts on this forum touch on the stress and anxiety which comes with cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Has anyone tried hypnotherapy as a way of helping to cope with this aspect?
I would be interested to know how you found a therapist and how many sessions you had etc. Thank you for any experience anyone can share.
Hi Hedera, When I was diagnosed I had severe hospital anxiety and an absolute fear of medical interventions and procedures. I found a local clinical hypnotherapist. She had previously practised as a GP. It was a suggestion made by one of the nurses at Breast Cancer Now. I had four sessions. It was quite expensive, but she was very generous with her time and I found her medical knowledge and support really helpful. I also found mindfulness and meditation techniques helpful too. The telephone support from "Breast Cancer Now" was invaluable. I was also referred to the hospital clinical psychology service and was given regular appointments throughout my treatment. I think it was a combination of all of these things that got me through. Not forgetting the most amazing care I received from my surgeon and my breast care nurse who went above and beyond to make my journey as doable as possible. Sending you love and very best wishes. x
