Hi all. I’m just wondering if there are any “secrets” to avoiding the unpleasant side effects of these drugs can give. Joint pain/ dryness/ uti’s / hot flashes. I know some people seem to get away with none of the above. Any tips ? I read that exercise/ healthy body weight/no booze/ certain supplements help. Do we think that’s the case or is it luck and getting the right drug? Would love to hear any thoughts on things I can actively do to help myself. Fed up with feeling like a passenger!!
thankyou all
Hi, I didn't get any of the known side effects of AIs with my normal menopause, apart from a bit achey.
Unfortunately, I have an autoimmune condition ( thyroid), so I was used to fatigue and brain fog, so I'm possibly not the best person to reply!
From my limited experience ( month 5 of Anastrazole) , the brand made a difference). Amarox, after the 10 days, I could tolerate. I ache but I am getting back into exercise ( running, lifting light weights and yoga). But conscious that I am only 8 weeks post radio, so fatigue could be that.
The KEY brand was horrendous ( awful vaginal problems and constant nausea and headache). I stopped taking it.
My oncologist wrote to the GP to ask them to prescribe Amarox for 3 months ( they give me 2, GP practice policy).
I don't drink and I take Vit D/K (liquid), magnesium, B vits for my thyroid, tart cherry ( joints) and calcum ( mild osteopenia).
Hi c22,
I have few side effects from Letrozole but I gave up alcohol the day I had my biopsy and they told me it was likely cancer, I do exercise and I have a BMI of 24. I don’t know if that has made a difference just giving my experience. I do use more moisturiser though.Hope you also have few problems with Letrozole.
No tips - but for me, my side effects calmed down after a few months. So all of a sudden at around seven months in, I started to love the little pill rather than hate it! The only side-effect that I needed help with was the vaginal dryness, and I was prescribed Vagifem for that. The Breast Care Nurse also prescribed CalciD which helps with bone density loss, so worth asking about that. Try and stick with it and if you worry about any of the side effects, speak to the BCN as they have lots of knowledge.
