Question about having the mirena taken out
after being diagnosed my surgeon told me to stop hrt (totally get that) and suggested I take out my coil
i get on super well with my mirena , it’s stopped my irregular heavy painful peri menopausal periods. I really could deal without dealing with the return of those on top of everything else
the BCN just told me I could keep it in
advice seems very unclear on dr google
I’ve got lumpectomy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment coming
Thankyou
just wondered what you guys were doing?
Yes sounds very similar to me . I just kept thinking if I need it I’ll just have to crack on with it , but deep down was dreading it . All my radio done now just started tablets on these for at least the next 5 years . Just hope I don’t get too many side affects from them . Small price to pay though to be cancer free x
take care . Fingers crossed for you xx
I was 54 at diagnosis and was on my third mirena coil. I sailed through menopause in hindsight because of the hormones within the coil? I was advised to have it removed which I did. I also had a blood test which showed I was post menopausal and then onto Letrazole after radiotherapy. I do have hot flushes, a very tender breast but that’s about it.
I can cope with this and feel ok. Coming upto one year post diagnosis now.
Hi shoppinglady
this sounds so familiar
just been told I’m post menopausal and wouldn’t have known I’d gone through it!
have started letrozole and it’s ok. Slight hot moments and a bit ratty.
coil coming out next week. I think the doctors thought they’d let me get through the operations without chucking that at me too. Really hope having the coil out doesn’t make much difference??
my radio starts September how did you find it??
The radio was ok. I had 15 treatments which included a boost. It doesn’t hurt but my skin was starting to feel a bit burned/red after treatment 10. Use plenty of moisturiser and afterwards the GP prescribed a pump dispenser of something without me asking for it which was really soothing. I’m fair skinned and although I had a dark area it faded very quickly and 5 months on you can hardly tell.
Welldone you for getting through it all. Not that we’ve got much choice!!
any lifestyle tips you think might have helped you with the side effects of letrozole?
I’ve been really surprised on not being told or finding anything really verified online about what things one can do to help oneself - exercise, diet, vitamins, PMA, I dunno!!??. And it’s quite hard to tell if the side effects are truly the tablets or just our stage in life if you know what I mean?
I agree with your thoughts conpletely! What are real side effects? I just make sure I exercise daily mainly walking and I use hand weights at home too. I am almost T total now and have cut out caffeine, preferring decaf coffee and I don’t miss it at all. Apart from that I haven’t found anything online at all?
