Implant rippling

Hi,

I had a double mastectomy with immediate implant reconstruction just under 4 weeks ago. My left implant had really deep rippling since the day I got my dressings off and my right has now started to show rippling too since I was ok’d to start massage last week. I know it’s still early on in the healing process but I just feel so upset about how the new breasts look, especially the left one because of the severity of the rippling. I can see it through my clothes and it’s knocked my confidence so badly. Ive been told there are things that can be done at a later date but that won’t be until at least 6 months and the thought of more surgery just frightens me as I’ve found recovery from this tough. I only had small breasts so my implants weren’t large and I’m quite slim so I know this inpacts it sometimes. It’s getting me so down and I hate looking at myself now. Has anyone else had a similar experience and managed to sort it? X

  • Hi

I didn't have the same surgery as you, so can't help with any shared experience, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. • Hi,i hade Dmx with implants reconstruction almost 3 weeks ago and i have same problem my right boob looking very rippling it's make me stresfull it's looking bad.How is your breast now?

  • Hi,

Hope you’re doing ok. My left breast has settled and dropped a lot now which has really helped with the rippling so it’s not so noticeable now. The right breast unfortunately hasn’t dropped into place and is a different shape now and it’s very rippled and hard so I’m back at the reconstruction clinic next month to see what can be done about it. I’m hoping it will eventually settle down like the left one has. As much as I hate saying this as it annoyed me when people said it to me, it’s just a matter of time whilst your body heals. My left one was so badly misshapen and rippled at the start but I like how it looks now and just wish the right one would settle the same. Try not to worry as it’s really early in the healing process but it will improve for you hopefully.xx

  • Thank you for quik reply. How many months you post operation?Your implants over muscle or under? My Breast nurse removed drains just 2 days ago i been with them 2 weeks, right boob looking very bad i can's look at the mirror:(

  • I still didn's seen my surgeon post operation will see him on monday for my result.Other surgeon said in 1 boob not enough fat,but still don't understand why they put implant over the muscle then.I have mesh as well.I have rippling ot top my breast and i feel implant there very hight, brrr it's horrible, not comfortable x

  • I had implants put over the muscle in a mesh sling. I’m also slim so my consultant said that it’s more common in slim women. I honestly hated my implants at your stage but I have grown to accept them more now and although one isn’t how I hoped, it’s ok.

I had my surgery on 20th May. If you’ve only just had your drains out then you will have so much swelling and that really makes them looks a different shape and rippled. Honestly, my left breast had such deep ripples that I could have put my finger into it but it really has settled down, it just took time and patience (which I don’t have a lot of!!). Try not to worry. I know it’s hard especially when you can’t bare to look at yourself but I promise it will get easier. There are things they can do if things don’t settle the way you want them to.x

  • Thank you.I hope it's,will look better soon x
