Has anybody changed hospitals before or after treatment for BC? I sold my house a week before this whole nightmare started, and am literally trying to still go ahead with move, but can't work out if its going to be a risk. My next appointment is 24/05 this will be 7 weeks after masectomy, the delay is due to 1 biopsy being inconclusive HER2 so further test needed. If it is negative then I will just need hormone therapy, but if positive targeted treatment, which is hospital once every 3 weeks. I need to make a firm commitment next week on moving , but wont have had results. Has anyone done this scenario, any advice or help on how difficult/easy it is. I am supposed to be moving to Cornwall and there is only 1 main hospital which I wouldnt be near . Thank you
Hello......hope you are recovering well from the mastectomy.
I have been on this thread awhile and over the years I know I have read posts from people who have moved and changed hospitals. The Macmillan helpline can probably tell you how to go about changing so there is no delay in your treatment. Also your consultant can probably liase with another hospital. It's not your fault that your diagnosis came after your moving plans.
If you are worried about treatment where you are going to relocate I suggest you ask another question....Does anyone live in Cornwall and was it difficult to get treatment?...I feel certain that there will be excellent cancer treatment there albeit perhaps hidden from the holidaymaking public.
Worse case scenario....I had to travel an hour for all my treatments....chemo and radiotherapy....but it is manageable when you hope it is making you better and in my case it was over 8 years ago so obviously worth it.
Take care and I wish you well. My instinct would be to say ...go ahead with the move. ( Hopefully you will have plenty of practical help with the packing?) Cornwall will be a gorgeous place to recuperate and you shouldn't let bc interfere with your long term hopes and plans.
Love Karen
Many thanks Karen, I do feel its the best thing, else I have let cancer win, but its scary to think I could risk delaying my treatment.
You are correct that as I know little of Cornwall it would be good to know from people that do live there.
So pleased to see you are 8 years clear, and long may this continue, and I do appreciate your reply.

I'm wondering how far away you are moving - I'm sensing its a far distance?
I'm wondering could you commit to the move and still go to your appointment at your original hospital (thinking if Cornwall Hospital doesn't do targeted treatment).
If you are happy with your hospital even consider going and staying overnight.
Oww and are you 100% you want to move - if this is an option - IDK - consider everything that is best for you.
Love, Gail xx
Hi Gail,
It was and is my dream to move, obviously now tainted with sadness. Truro hospital will do same treatment but its more the worry that i could get lost in system, or as it could be once every 3 weeks getting the timing right. Its over 300 miles away so no other options..
Hope your good in this nightmare world. X
Yes, that would be Truro. I wouldn't have thought the community hospitals would offer any treatment (but may well be wrong).
If you do move, please be aware that the traffic on the A30 and around Truro can be horrific in the summer. However long you think you would need to get to Treliske I would at least double it. I am only saying this so you can be prepared as the last thing you would want is to be worrying about being stuck in traffic on your way to treatment. It's one of the joys of living here, I'm afraid, but the positives of being in Cornwall, especially on a beautiful day like this, far outweigh any of the challenges. x
I did say to my daughter that summertime will be a challenge, traffic and parking, but thank you for that. This is not going to be the same as when I first got the idea but I hope the beautiful scenry, sea, etc will help the healing process, and I love walking so will be the right place ️. Thank you x
