Hello,

Is there anybody that can tell me their experience of heart monitoring through undergoing treatment. I am currently on 7th round of weekly paciticle Chemo & 3rd 3 weekly Herceptin injections. I had an echo scan in January, this was before starting my treatment. Can anyone tell me how often I’m likely to have my heart checked. I have not had any problem’s up until now, but over the last few days I have felt a strange sensation in my chest, to the left of my breast bone, not sure if I’m just being over cautious & anxious, as have had panic attacks in the past.

Thank you,

Xx

  • Hi, you should have an echocardiogram every three months whilst being treated with Herceptin. I had 6 Phesgo injections 3 weekly then started 14 rounds of Kadcyla so had quite a few scans over the 18 months.  I do suffer with a lot of palpitations which I take medications for but all my scans were ok.  Wishing you all the best. X

  • Hi Mimosa,

thank you for that. I have treatment tomorrow so I will check it out with the oncology team then.

Hope all is going well for you now. Heartpulse

  • Hi Mimosa,

Just a little update. I discussed my ongoing chest pain with the chemo nurse. I was checked over by the oncologist & another doctor, after having ECG they decided I could go ahead with the chemo treT ment today, but wanted to repeat an ECG afterwards, which I had and they were happy with that, said for me to call the hotline with any changes to symptoms or if I am worried. Feeling  so relieved & thank you for your response. Two hearts

Hope you are doing well & having a good day…

  • Hi Tilly, I had the same experience as you. I had awful palpitations and sensations on Paclitaxel, I was really worried I had permanent heart damage. I had two echocardiograms 3 months apart. They showed I had normal heart function, but at the time I was worried because of the palpitations. But, two months on from stopping chemo (and had surgery two weeks ago too) and my heart feels back to normal, no pounding palpitations, so just to reassure you that it'll probably calm down quite quickly when your chemo ends. (Like Mimosa, I now face 14 x 3-weekly Kadcyla, not looking forward to that : (  x

  • Hi Dkbythesea,

Thank you for that, that is very reassuring, all these side affects are horrible, but when it’s the heart the mind goes into overdrive. It seems to of settled a little since having the ecg, I have 3 more weekly paclitaxal I’m also booked to have an echocardiogram on the 8th so will know a bit more, before going into radiotherapy.

I wish you all the very best for the future & hope your treatment will pass quickly & be kind to you.
