Hi  I finished my treatment 18 months ago. I've been on anastrozole since which has been okay apart from odd hot flushing and painful sex..I use vaginal moisteriser v San which stops any itching but sex is painful. I've read that it's okay to have topical vaginal oestrogen after breast cancer . Does anyone use it ?

Thanks x

Ive

  • I use Vagirux. I have TNBC but my surgeon said that she would have been happy for me to stay on it even if I had had an ER+ cancer as it’s topical. It makes a huge difference, including reducing the likelihood of urinary tract infections.

  • Yes - vagifem. Also use Replens

  • I have been taking Anastrozole for 12 months now and have been suffering with Vaginal/vulva dryness on and off.  I have been very sore and have to take care with the clothes I wear now., and sitting is very  uncomfortable. I have been talking to my Oncologist who said that I can use Vagifem on an intermittent basis, so have just started using it twice a week.  I also use a vaginal moisturiser Activ Balance.  I want to get a solution to this issue as it has been getting me down.  I think this is a problem to many of us taking AI’s.

  • I can understand that. My problems started when I became menopausal & I was on HRT patches before my diagnosis as well as Vagifem but got worse again after I had to stop HRT. One suggestion might be to see if you can referred to see a specialist pelvic floor physio. I found this helpful for relaxing my pelvic floor, which helps.
