Hi - I had a mastectomy and an immediate DIEP free flap reconstruction in September 23, unfortunately the flap did not take and I had to get it removed the day after. I have now recovered enough to consider a second reconstruction but because I am on the slimmer side and I no longer have a tummy to use they have suggested a Latissimus Flap surgery with a small implant or possibly fat grafting from my inner thighs if there is enough fat.
I really didn't want an implant which is why I went for the DIEP flap in the first place but am now wondering if this is the next best option as I'm a keen tennis player and cyclist and have read some horror stories about shoulder problems following this surgery and its my dominant arm. I don't want to compromise my lifestyle just to look good. I have also been offered a reduction to match the other side and am concerned that I will lose all sensation in that boob too!
Can anyone out there who has had a Lat D flap reconstruction on their dominant side let me know what the recovery was like and if you can still do the sports you liked before this procedure?
Also if you had a reduction if you lost the sensation in the other nipple?
Many thanks
