Shingles vaccine

Does anyone know how long you should wait after radiotherapy before getting a shingles vaccine?

  • It is imperative that you insist on a  non-live vaccine called shingrex.  You may know this but thought I’d mention it just in case.  I think I had my shingrex a few weeks after RT but will check for sure and come back to you.  X

  • It’s call shingrix not shingrex as I previously stated. I’ve just checked my gp records and I had my shingrex on 11 May this year and finished my RT in January this year. I am sorry but I don’t know how long you should wait but your oncology team may be able to help with this.
    Best wishes xx

  • Many thanks Mibby

I did read about the Shingrix vaccine and the importance of it being a non live vaccine after I posted.  It seems Scotland started using this one from October last year but I’m going to check it is that one before accepting it. I’ve been invited for the vaccine next month which should be ok since radiotherapy was August. I’m just worried as I still have a lot of swelling and tightness which doesn’t appear to be improving and still feel weak and nauseous quite a bit - I’m assuming it’s side effects of the radiotherapy but I  didn’t expect it to last this long. I’m going to phone my BCN tomorrow to check about the swelling so will ask about the vaccine too. X
